Statement of Project:
The sixth-grade social studies curriculum in District#33 requires a study
of the ancient civilizations. The purpose of this project is to do an in-depth
study of the ancient Maya Indians and is in alignment with the Illinois
Academic Standards. To complete this project you will use a variety of sources
to find information on the Maya civilization. These sources will include,
but not be limited to, literature,reference materials, CD-ROMs, videos,
and the Internet. You will be working in groups of three or four, and ,
as a group, create a presentation using HyperStudio. Individually, you will
be responsible to create a product, such as a diorama, poster, chart, or
any other product that depicts some aspect of the Maya civilization.

source with photos of ruins, locations, clothing, and two activities; e-mail

- Mystery of
the Maya - excellent site with information on people, geography, language,
writing, and more; links to other sites. You have to register (it's free)
to log-in.
- Maya Civilization
- Past and Present - excellent site including culture, language, numbers,
folk tales, and geographical maps; links to other sites.
- Newton's
Apple - gives information on ethnobotany.
- The Maya
Astronomy Page - a good site that covers previously mentioned topics
plus astronomy; more links. You need Netscape 2.0 to view this site.
