Subject/Content Area
This lesson will be taught through the computer class in the middle
school. Composition will be completed through language arts class, while
the drawing portion will be conducted through art class. Cultural and geographical
awareness will be shared in social studies class.
Purpose/Goal
Students will use this project to use a variety of technologies in their
computer class. It will also encompass other curricular areas that involve
communication, problem solving, writing and technology application. Students
will also share cultural awareness and geographical differences with the
partner school(s).
Alignment with Standards:
Students will communicate with partner school not only about the Monster
project, but also cultural and geographical sharing.
Students will design their Monster
Project in art class with assigned partners.
Students will write a description of their Monster Project in their language
arts class.
Students will place their Monster Project descriptions on a disk.
Students will use Lotus
Notes to e-mail their descriptions of their Monster Project.
Students will receive descriptions of the Monster Project from their partner
class.
Students will digitize their creation of their Monster Project.
Students will create Monster Project galleries.
This lesson will occur at the end of third quarter and the beginning of
fourth quarter of the academic school year.
Learner Description
This project is targeted for middle school students who have full Internet
access.
Students develop computer skills such as scanning, word processing,
video conferencing through using Cu-See
Me, and use of Internet.
Students will learn and use a varity of writing process skills such as writing
rough drafts, revision, and editing.
Students will learn descriptive writing.
Students will collaborate with another school(s).
Students will participate in an interactive hands-on learning experience
that will engage students
to learn.
Students will incorporate drawing into the project.
Students will share cultural and geographical similarities and differences.
Assessment of Students involved in the project
Descriptive writing assessed in Language Arts class.
Drawing assessed in art class.
Use of technology assessed in computer class.
Assessment is made through the use of subject related rubrics already used
in the described classes.
This assessment also involves student self-assessment.
Evaluation of Project
The project evaluation measures how well you achieved your goal. It
also provides an opportunity to answer these three questions:
What worked?
What didn't?
What would I change?
