You are there, or at least you will be with a little help from the Internet !

Throughout this year, you will be part of a small group of students that will be monitoring what is happening on the latest shuttle mission using the Kennedy Center Home Page. Your team will be given a specific part of the mission to research and monitor. You will be using information from NASA as well as any other material you are able to access through other sources.

Each group will study one of the following aspects of the mission:

  1. Each student will be assigned a group.
  2. Each group will be assigned one aspect of the mission to study.
  3. The group will spend time using the Internet to locate information on the Kennedy Center Home Page. to monitor the daily activites of the mission in reference to their assignemnt.

Preflight Information/Mission Highlights

You will need to go to the Yahoo Space Shuttle facts or the Kennedy Space Center Home Page to find the following information:

  1. Name of spacecraft
  2. Time of launch
  3. Date of launch
  4. Purpose of mission

Crew

You will need to go to the Yahoo Space Shuttle facts or the Kennedy Space Center Home Page to find the following information:

  1. Name of crew member
  2. Previous or first flight
  3. Country represented
  4. Job on mission
  5. Other interesting facts

Launch, Orbit, Landing

You will need to go to the Yahoo Space Shuttle facts or the Kennedy Space Center Home Page to find the following information:

  1. Launch and landing information:
    • Weather delays
    • Locations of landing
    • Other information of interest about the launch and landing

  2. Orbit information:
    • Tracking the flight each day at a specific time and graphing its location
    • Other information of interest about the flight path

Menu

You will need to go to the Yahoo Space Shuttle facts or the Kennedy Space Center Home Page to find each day's menu.

    You will do the following with each shuttle's menu:
    1. Compare and contrast the menus from each shuttle mission
    2. Using the Food Pyramid, determine if each day's menu meets the necessary nutritional requirements



    STUDENT ASSESSMENT
    Each student will be evaluated on the following:

    • Ability to access the Internet
    • Ability to gather necessary information from the Internet
    • Abililty to organize information in a meaningful way
    • Presentation of informatin to class in a planned and organized manner
    • Appearance of visual aid
    • Involvement in group work

    Each student will do a self-evaluation at the end of the project.
