ENGLISH AND WORLD LITERATURE/GRADE 12/REGULAR & ADVANCED PLACEMENT
THE GOAL OF THIS PROJECT IS FOR STUDENTS TO ENGAGE IN AN INTEGRATED, COLLABORATIVE AND PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING SITUATION USING AVAILABLE TELECOMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY TO RETRIEVE, EXCHANGE AND POST INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET.
THIS PROJECT IS TO BE COMPLETED WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF BATAVIA SCHOOL DISTRICT #101'S LEARNING EXIT OUTCOMES B AND C:
AS A RESULT OF THEIR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES IN BATAVIA, ALL GRADUATES WILL BE CREATIVE AND CRITICAL THINKERS WHO WILL INDEPENDENTLY OR IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHERS USE AVAILABLE RESOURCES TO IDENTIFY, ACCESS, AND INTEGRATE INFORMATION FOR USE IN PREDICTION, ANALYSIS, SYNTHESIS, AND EVALUATION IN THE DECISION MAKING AND/OR PROBLEM SOLVING PROCESS.
AS A RESULT OF THEIR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES IN BATAVIA, ALL GRADUATES WILL BE RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS WHO UNDERSTAND THAT THE CULTURES OF THE COUNTRY AND WORLD ARE DIVERSE, ALSO UNDERSTAND THE ROLE THE ARTS PLAY IN OUR LIVES, AND ARE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE CONSTRUCTIVELY IN OUR DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY.
STUDENTS WILL SPEND ONE BLOCK (90 MINUTES) PER WEEK ON THE INTERNET AND/OR IN GROUP DISCUSSION. IN ADDITION, STUDENTS WILL TRAVEL TO CHICAGO WITH THEIR INSTRUCTOR TO FILM/PHOTOGRAPH RELEVANT PUBLIC ART EXAMPLES. THE PROJECT WILL LAST THE ENTIRE EIGHTEEN WEEK SEMESTER AND WILL BE REPEATED/ADDED TO BY THE SECOND SEMESTER ENGLISH AND WORLD LITERATURE BLOCK STUDENTS.
EACH CLASS IS BETWEEN 20-25 STUDENTS IN THREE BLOCKS. STUDENTS ARE COLLEGE-BOUND SENIORS; ONE GROUP IS AN ADVANCED PLACEMENT CLASS. STUDENTS ARE AVERAGE TO ABOVE AVERAGE IN WRITING AND RESEARCH SKILLS. SOME ARE EXCEPTIONAL. NEARLY EVERY STUDENT IS COMPUTER PROFICIENT, AND THE MAJORITY OF STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO COMPUTERS AT HOME.

WORK COLLABORATIVELY WITHIN THEIR GROUP AND WITH THEIR INTERNATIONAL PARTNER GROUP.
ACCESS AND USE THE INTERNET TO COLLECT INFORMATION AND TO COMMUNICATE WITH INTERNATIONAL PARTNER GROUP.
SCAN PHOTOGRAPHS/FILM FREEZES.
USE HTML TO WRITE WEB PAGES DESCRIBING CHICAGO PUBLIC ART.
OBSERVE WEEKLY DEADLINES RELEVANT TO WRITING AND UPDATING PUBLIC ART EXCHANGE WEB PAGE.
PRESENT THEIR PUBLIC ART EXCHANGE PROJECT SCHOOL-WIDE IN THE LAST WEEK OF THE SEMESTER.
THE PUBLIC ART EXCHANGE IS INTENDED TO BE AN INTERACTIVE, COLLABORATIVE PROJECT IN WHICH STUDENTS ARE ENGAGED IN INTERNET SEARCHING, INTERNET COMMUNICATION AND WEB PAGE CREATION IN ORDER TO CAPTURE, POST AND EXCHANGE SIGNIFICANT EXAMPLES OF CITY PUBLIC ART AS A DEFINING ELEMENT OF URBAN CULTURE.
ASSESSMENT WILL BE COMPLETED USING THE FOLLOWING RUBRIC FOR EACH OUTCOME:
