Before this project, the 4th Graders did a social studies units on various regions of the United States. The states were divided into regions such as the NorthEast, The Mid-West, The South East, The SouthWest, The West, etc. Students read the material in their book and researched topics such as industry, culture, land forms, etc. in the school library and the local public library. Students were handed papers containing "fill in the blank" statements and then took a final test over each region. "Pretty dull and boring", is the way one student phrased it.
