Thanks for choosing to help save our Nature Trail! Click
here to look at a view of
our trail. While you are looking, think about what you already know about
the Nature Trail environment. Think about what problems you might find there.

Trail. You don't want the trail to look like this do you!
Step Two
Okay fellow problem solver, let's get to work! We need to learn a lot about
the environment if we are going to figure out exactly what's wrong with
our Nature Trail and how we can fix it. Click on the Environmental Links
button on the Travel Trail Compass menu at the left side of the page. Follow
the directions at the top of that page.
Step Three
You are doing a great job so far! Was some of that information kind of
confusing?
Do you feel like you could use some help? Well I think that you are in luck.
Mr. Fawver and his seventh graders are also learning about the environment.
In fact, they know quite a lot! I bet that if you wrote them a letter asking
for help, that they would help us!
Click here to e-mail a letter to Mr. Fawver and his class. Use what
we've learned about letter writing to help you.
Step Four
Now your group will take a walk on the Nature Trail and look for enironmental
problems. Please bring your journals and take notes on things that you
notice. You will be able to use digital cameras and video cameras to
take pictures of problems that you find. When you come back in you will
talk with your group about what you discovered and make a reflection
in your iBook. You will be taught how to use a Group
Self Evaluation Form and fill one out for your group work today.
Step Five
Today you will be meeting with your group and deciding on which problem
your group will work on. You will be making choices about what you will
be looking
for, what kind of data you will be collecting, and what you will use
to collect it.
You will learn how to make a map. After you use this site to learn
how to make a good map, your group will make a map of the Nature Trail.
On it you should mark the areas of the trail that your group is researching.
This map and all of the information that you create from this project will
be put on our school web site,
so make sure that you do a great job!
Step Six
For the next six months your group will collect data on the Nature Trail.
Each time you should bring your jounals and take notes. Don't forget to
bring any equipment that you will need!
You will e-mail information that you gather to Mr.
Thompson, the man from the DNR who spoke to you. He will also be glad
to help you with questions that your teachers can't help you with. He is
very interested in what you do!
Your group will use what you have learned to come up with ideas about how
to fix the problems on the Nature Trail. We are sure that these ideas will
save
our trail!
You will show what you have done and learned by making a Final Project
with your group. This project will be shown to the Unity School Board -
the people who help run the school. It will also be shown to other important
people who are interested in helping our environment!
Look at the Project Guide to see what
needs to be done to create your project. Look at the Assessment
Page to see how it will be graded.
